About Mahle H22 Pistons

When it comes to picking a set of pistons you want to make sure that you get the correct applications. Mahle has several series pistons available with different compression ratios.
On this site we only have Mahle pistons for the H22 available. We can special order other pistons if needed.

To determine your compression ratio there are few things that you can do. Compression ratio has to do with amount of volume in the combustion chamber. When someone says that they have 10.1 compression that means this. 10 parts oxygen and one part fuel. This is a rich running set-up. Typically lower compression numbers mean that you are running a turbo application.

On the other hand, higher compression numbers mean that you have a N/A motor. 11.5 compression would be considered borderline between N/A to turbo applications. The reasoning behind lower compression pistons is because of the issue with heat.

Tubro motors operate on a much hotter level than a typical N/A motor. Meaning they give off much more heat than N/A. Heat is the enemy of all engine functions. The more heat the more wear and tear on the motor. By lessening the amount of heat given off you add to the longevity of the motor. Fuel acts as a cooling agent. The more fuel the cooler the engine runs. The less fuel, the hotter the engine runs.

N/A motors can handle more heat, because they give off a more natural heat than turbos. Turbos force more air into the combustion chamber, creating a higher pressure.
