How to Solder

How to Solder

  • Things Needed
  • Solder
  • Solder Iron
  • Flux
  • Electrical Tape

There are a few different ways to actually solder.  Solder is by far the best means for splicing electrical connections together.  Using solder is tricky at first but with time, practice and Flux you will get this down.

How not to solder is hard to explain without a video.  So in words I will best describe how not to solder

  • Do not take the solder gun and heat the wires up for a few minutes, and than try to melt the solder on top of the wiring.
  • Do not take the solder gun and melt the solder so that it drips onto your connection.
  • Do not solder without flux
  • Do not solder without wrapping your connections in electrical tape when you are finished.

Those are just a few ways how not solder.  Now that we got that down, lets talk about How to Solder.

  1. Take your wires and strip them at the end so that no more than one inch of bare wire is visable.
  2. Twist the wires togther
  3. Take your flux and your flux brush and wipe the twisted wires down good with flux.(Flux acts as a heating and binding element)
  4. Heat up your solder gun
  5. Take your solder and put some on the tip of the solder gun(Only put enough so that the solder stays on the end of the solder gun without dripping)
  6. Now take the solder gun tip and put it on the wires that are covered in flux.
  7. Watch with amazement at how easy that was to do it the right way
  8. Now wrap your connection up in Electrical take and call it a day.
