Suspension Parts
The suspension is something that can be over looked when modding a car. It is very important that you don't skip over this. The suspension is what holds your car to the ground. Even with a high horse power car, its really no match for a slightly modded engine with good suspension parts.
The suspension can affect allot of what how the car handles. How it does this varies on what it is. Stock suspensions tend to be bouncy and not stiff. This leads to car swaying, losing traction, improper alignment, and body roll. All these things can have negative effects if you over look this.
When building a high horse power engine there are plenty of factors that need to be thought about when developing this motor. Springs, shocks, sway bars, camber kits, castor kits, traction bars, chassis stiffeners, and the list can go on.
Lowering springs, something that goes hand in hand with shocks, or complete coil over kits. These springs, or kits, lower the car to ground, stiffening the way the car sits on the ground, and stops body roll. This stops the car from slapping around on the track when cornering. That causes issues to happen and slows down acceleration because you have to catch up from the speed you were at.
Camber and Castor kits correct issues dealt with from lowering springs and coil over kits. Something that happens when you install these springs, is camber and castor issues. These issue range from irregular tire wear to misalignment on the alignment rack. Stock camber and castor kits can only correct so much negative camber or castor. Even rear toe can be destroyed from this. After market kits are made to correct this from happening. They allow more adjustments to happen on the stock parts.
Sway bars, and brace bars, work even more with lowering springs. When lowering the car, it puts more stress on chassis, these things help to stiffen up the chassis. This creates a better base for high horse power motors. The car is braced for something that can put out high horse power.
Traction bars help to get traction on the wheels. A large amount of the time when it comes down to getting 600 horse power to the wheels, traction becomes an issue. Lowering springs can only do so much. You need more than just that. Traction bars, poly urethane suspension joints, are what you need to help make the car twist and bend at the least amount possible.
